USC CTVIP is part of the SafeKids Worldwide Network which aims to prevent injuries in children. As the SafeKids Los Angeles East Coalition, the CTVIP runs a child passenger safety program. The leading cause of death for children in the United States are vehicle collisions.
With a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician on staff, the CTVIP offers a monthly 1-2-hour workshop open to the community to learn about how to select the right car seat for a child, the proper direction of the seat in the vehicle, location, installation and harnessing of the child.
The child passenger safety program aids parents and caregivers to understand the importance of using a child safety seat correctly and how it can reduce a fatal injury for the child. Along with workshops, the CTVIP provides vehicle checks for proper safety belt use and use of child safety seats for all who ride in the vehicle.
